Chinese Study Plan
HSK, or Han4yu3 Shui3ping2 Kao3Shi4, or the Chinese Proficiency Test, has 6 levels. Having passed level 4 in June, I am planning to take level 5 in January or February 2014.
Month 1: September 2013
- General Chinese Small Group Class – 2 hours – Experience Chinese textbook, focusing on listening and speaking skills
- Homework – minimum 1 hour – using the following tools:
http://www.skritter.com (use SRS – space repetition software to practice writing Chinese characters)
http://www.memrise.com (use mnemonics to review vocabulary, specifically from the Experience Chinese textbook)
http://ankisrs.net (use flashcards to review vocabulary, specifically HSK words)
- Contact with a native speaker – minimum 30 minutes, discussing general life topics, with special interest in enlarging Film and Teacher Training vocabulary
Total time spent studying* daily, from Monday to Friday is about 17.5 hours per week.
*The emphasis is on quality, not quantity of hours studying!
