Rationale: TECW to Motivate and Engage Teachers

benefits for teachers

> TECW can be seen as an alternative way of teaching coursebook content, where the the focus can still be on particular areas of vocabulary or grammar. Or as a fresh, new topic to teach, in itself, where writing skills may be approached directly. In this way, trying out something new and challenging can be motivational for most teachers.

> Utilising digital tools means that teachers can presenting language in different contexts, by different types of media – online newspaper articles, recorded radio interviews, other audio clips, TV/video clips, digital images, website, etc. I have found that contextualising new language in multiple ways, not only appeals to a broad range of learning styles, but also deepens understanding.

> Recycling the language through alternating activities, is a powerful way to support language acquisition. We learn through repetition: but doing the same thing, too often, gets boring, and may even lead one to forget! So using the language in different situations, through differing types of activities, can strengthen understanding. And if those activities are fun, engaging and meaningful, then this means the students are likely to become more motivated and want to come back for more!

> Dual teaching and learning opportunity: First to learn new ways of presenting the same topics. Also, if the teacher carries out the tasks herself, (s)he may discover unknown creative talent, or at least, deepen and expand his/her own reading and writing skills!
