Teaching English as a Foreign Language
Background – In order to make practical application of knowledge gained on my Masters course and to better understand the value of technology use in the TEFL classroom, I plan to review the use of the IWB and Activ Table at my school.
Plan – Following the eight-point plan suggested in the last webinar I participated in, Gear up for Digital, I will liase with teachers, observe students behaviour and confidence, and make recommendations for the use of digital tools.
Possible Outcome – Deeper understanding of the concept of teaching and learning in China (from the student perspective), Practical application of knowledge gained on Masters course; Practical use and development of digital skills; Development of lesson plans for ActivTable
Teaching Chinese to Speakers Of other Languages
Background – In order to make practical application of knowledge gained on my Masters course and to better understand the value of technology use in the TCSOL classroom , I plan to co-create with a TCSOL teacher, a blog/website that discusses (language) learning theory and provides practical advice for teachers of the Chinese language based in central Beijing.
Plan – Record podcasts and/or screencasts, provide additional supplementary materials and invite a guest speaker/teacher each bi-weekly episode to offer his/own opinion, experience and advice.
Possible Outcomes – Deeper understanding of the concept of teaching and learning in China (from the teacher perspective); Practical application of knowledge gained on Masters course; Practical use and development of Chinese language skills; Development of an open-access, virtual database of core Chinese language teaching materials
Is this Teacher K at her most ambitious? Probably!
