Learning Chinese

Having reached Level 4 of the New Chinese Proficiency Exam, HSK, back in June 2013, follow me as I climb the steep hill that is preparing for the New HSK Level 5 exam! These posts are tagged Learn Chinese. In order to combine practising spoken Chinese with my views and tips on teaching and learning languages, I plan to upload audio/video recordings which will be tagged 瑞娜说话, and write posts using Chinese characters, which will be tagged 瑞娜写中文.

Teaching Chinese

Stuyding Chinese picqued an interest in learning more about teaching methodology in China. Wanting to understand the history and theory of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (TCSOL), in the spring of 2013, I devised a short questionnaire about TCSOL and sent it to 10 Chinese teachers I know. I have published the responses in this blog.

You will find 10 completed questionnaires, followed by a short discussion on the limitations of this simple project, conclusions and recommendations. These posts are tagged TCSOL and TCFL.

Consulting with Experts

In the next phase, I continue to discuss issues related to teaching and learning, with a focus on languages and the role of technology, with academics and professionals in the field. These posts are tagged Expert Corner.

Live Projects

Project 1: I am in the initial stages of designing a short podcasting series with native and non-native Chinese speaking teachers and enthusiasts, that will discuss (language) learning theory, application of theory to practice, and the role of technology in the classroom.

Project 2: For my school, I plan to design some lessons plans that incorporate technology in meaningful ways, for beginner and intermediate levels.

Proejct 3: As part of my Masters course, I plan to design a mini-course of technology-enhanced creative writing lesson plans.
