Self-Introduction

I am now participating in an LTMOOC (www.ltmooc.com). Language Teaching Massive Online Open Course, to the uninitiated. I enjoy learning languages, I teach, and I am interested in using technology in the classroom. So I thought this free course would be perfect for me.

Week 1’s tasks include introducing yourself on a blog. So that’s why I am here! It’s my first time on tumblr. (Now I’ve migrated the content of my original tumblr blog to WordPress!). I’m quite nervous. I hope you won’t bite!

Anyway, here is me:

I am English, from London. However, I am currently in Beijing, China.

I studied business at university, worked in the European energy trading markets for more years than I care to remember, and have always enjoyed learning languages.

I am a native speaker of English. I speak French quite well, I am proud of my intermediate Spanish, but can only claim having beginner level Italian and Mandarin.

I teach English as a Foreign Language, but I am becoming quite (read, obsessively) interested in all that is Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language.

I teach English in a small language training centre, which is part of a bigger chain.

Through LTMOOC, I hope to interact with like-minded individuals, to be able to share ideas, and to have the chance to create my own online lessons.

My current hobbies include watching foreign films, reading about Chinese modern history, cycling and thinking about ways to improve my learning Chinese experience.
